Do Jack Russell Terriers Shed Recap and Overview

Let’s start with a brief recap of the answer provided above.

Yes, Jack Russells do shed, and at times, it can be relatively abundant.

There’s no magic mix of Jack Russell Terrier that does not shed, but you may very well indeed adopt a Jack Russell that sheds less than others may experience.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be a huge issue.

You have plenty of options, tips, and strategies you can implement to help reduce shedding with your Jack Russell and regain a clean home while enjoying one of the best family dogs you can choose to adopt.

Let’s transition and begin discussing some of these tips and strategies you can use to help reduce shedding as much as possible.

How Can I Stop My Stop My Jack Russell from Shedding?

First and foremost, you won’t be able to eliminate shedding with a Jack Russell.

It’s not going to happen, and trust me, I’ve tried.

However, being ready to implement the best practices to reduce shedding can minimize the problem significantly.

One thing to understand is that shedding with Jack Russells tend to increase when seasons change.

Your JR may begin shedding off the previous season’s coat, and it may seem like much more hair is falling onto those beautiful floors than usual.

This will happen in the spring and again in the fall in most situations.

Once you understand this, you can begin implementing some of the recommended tips and tricks towards reducing the problem with shedding as much as possible.

Here is a look at some of those recommendations for you.

Jack Russell Shedding Solutions and Tips

To help you begin reducing the shedding issue, I’ve compiled a quick list of tips and tricks I use on my own Jack Russell to minimize shedding.

Tip #1- Brushing

The first tip is one of the most common tips dog owners around the world use to help eliminate shedding.

Brush your Jack Russell.

Another big key to this is to use a brush that’s rubber or has a rubber mitt.

This can help to loosen up the hairs and even loosen up the undercoat hair.

Keep in mind that none of these tips eliminate shedding, but they can go a long way towards reducing shedding dramatically with Jack Russell Terriers.

Brush your Jack Russell and brush them often.

I recommend that you brush them while you have them outside to keep the hair out of the house.

It takes roughly 3-5 minutes to give a Jack Russell a good brushing. It will undoubtedly extend the amount of times you need to empty the canister on your vacuum.

Tip #2- Don’t Overdo Bath Time

Yes, I completely understand that none of us want a stinky Jack Russell, and maybe they even have dug a fresh hole in the backyard, and your first instinct is to bathe them and bathe them often.

Be careful with this, and don’t overdo it.

Bathing a Jack Russell will dry out their skin.

As the skin on your Jack Russell dries out, they will begin to shed more.

To put this in an easy way to understand, bathe your Jack Russell when needed but not too often if you want to reduce shedding as much as possible.

Tip #3- Keep A Well Balanced and Healthy Diet for Your Jack Russell

My next tip for you is to realize that all dogs need a well-balanced diet, and a Jack Russell’s diet directly impacts their skin, hair, and every function of their body just like you and I experience.

Ensure that they are being provided with the necessary diet.

If necessary, speak to your vet about the best practices with this to ensure you are providing the best care possible to your JR.

Tip #4- Accept it and Move On, Jack Russells Are Awesome Pets

The last tip I have for you may be slightly annoying, but it’s the truth.

It’s not rocket science here, and it’s something you just need to accept with about 98% of the dogs that you can choose to adopt.

Shedding is not a reason not to choose a Jack Russell Terrier.

They make excellent pets, are extremely intelligent, and the shedding can be reduced.

If you use the tips that I’ve laid out for you thus far and accept that some hair will fall to the floor from time to time, you will be in excellent shape.

Trust me, it’s not something that overly bothers me with my Jack Russell, and I would consider myself relatively OCD and a clean freak.

Keep brushing your JR as much as possible, limit baths to when needed, and you will be in great shape.

Now that we have our tips and tricks out of the way towards reducing Jack Russell shedding, I want to move into a few frequently asked questions that arise on this topic and have you on your way.

Do Rough Coat Jack Russells Shed?
