While I have nothing against reputable breeders, according to the ASPCA approximately 3.1 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year.

If you are interested in bringing a dog into your home, I encourage you to take a look at your local animal shelters before going to a breeder – it’s what I did! There are so many amazing animals that need a home.

In this post, I want to highlight just a few of the many terriers that are available for adoption throughout the the U.S.

1. Ranger the Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Sweet, lovable, and loyal Ranger can’t wait to find a family of his own! Anyone that will throw Ranger’s ball around for him is his new best friend in his eyes. Ranger’s gentle demeanor makes him a great surrogate dad to his foster family’s many litters of puppies that come through the door.

Initially, Ranger may come off as a little nervous, but after spending some time with him his true colors shine through and you can’t help but love this 50lb baby!

Ranger is available for adoption from REACH Rescue in Mundelein, IL. Click here to learn more about Ranger.

2. Maudie the Terrier Mix

Are you and your family looking for a fun, bouncy, loving, playful and a perfect sized pup to add to your outdoor adventures and indoor cuddle time! Meet Maudie!

Maudie is a chunky monkey at 40 pounds, super friendly terrier mix that has never met a stranger. She eagerly wants to say hi to everyone and especially kiddos! Maudie sweetly invites kiddos to say hello and easily rolls over on her belly hoping for belly rubs!

3. Miso and Sake

Meet Miso the terrier mix and her best friend Sake!

These two are affectionately referred to as “the girls” because wherever you find Sake, Miso is one step behind her. Since both of these pups are under three years old, they love to play all day and tumble around our Romp Room while we find them their perfect forever home.

These two are absolute snuggle bugs as well! They love attention and belly scratches!

Miso and Sake are available for adoption from Nuzzles & Co. in Park City, UT. Click here to learn more about Miso. Click here to learn more about Sake.

4. Kansas the American Staffordshire Terrier & Labrador Mix

Kansas is an American Staffordshire Terrier & Labrador mix who was pulled from the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Kansas City with just a few hours to spare.

He’s a very sweet, playful boy who loves making new dog friends and going on long walks. He’s 3 years old and knows how to sit, shake, and lie down. We can’t wait for him to find his forever home!

Kansas is available for adoption from Furry Friends Refuge in West Des Moines, IA. Click here to learn more about Kansas.

5. Toast the American Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Toast is a one year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. He is super sweet and loves to be all in your personal space. Toast is still a really big puppy!

He likes long walks, and really needs them. As a puppy he can get bored, and as a big puppy, that can leave a larger impact on his surroundings. Play and long walks are going to do both of you lots of good!

Toast is available for adoption from L.I.F.E. House For Animals in Frankfort, KY. Click here to learn more about Toast.

6. Ceasar the Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Ceasar is a 9 year old, neutered, Pit Bull Terrier Mix. He was pulled from a local town shelter. He had mass cell cancer on his shoulder which was removed.

He is dog selective, not good with cats and good with children. He has a lot of anxiety at the rescue and would love for him to find his final forever home.

Ceasar is available for adoption from Almost Home Animal Rescue in Medford, NY. Click here to learn more about Ceasar.

7. Peaches the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix

Peaches is a very sweet tempered Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix who is approximately 2-3 years old. She loves children, gets along with other dogs, and loves to jump on an ATV or in a vehicle and go for a ride anywhere as long as she’s with you.

Peaches gave birth to 3 puppies end of March so is currently being an amazing mama and taking care of her babies, but toward the end of May, once she has recovered from being spayed, she will be looking for her very own loving furever home. This sweet girl is going to make an excellent addition to any loving family!

Peaches is available for adoption from Heart and Soul Pet Rescue in Fletcher, OK. Click here to learn more about Peaches.

8. Jersey the Jack Russell Terrier

This is little Jersey, a 12 year old 25 pound boy looking for his forever home. Jersey was checked out by a vet and has had his shots updated and is in good health.

This sweet loving little guy is very affectionate and enjoys adult company. It takes him a little bit of time to trust but when he does he can be a little buddy.

Jersey is available for adoption from Jack Russell Network Canada in Toronto, ON. Click here to learn more about Jersey.

9. Rider the West Highland White Terrier

Rider is a wonderful dog! He is joyful and loving and just full of himself. He is also 100% terrier. He is constantly guarding us from the deer, squirrels, moles, whatever dares to peek into the yard.

So, he is not a quiet dog and he loves to dig (if there is a mole involved) and often sports a muddy beard and socks.

Rider is available for adoption from Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue and Sanctuary in Franklin, TN. Click here to learn more about Rider.

10. Vinton the Bull Terrier Mix

Vinton, the very very handsome little moo cow! This guy is so much cuter in person; don’t let the camera fool you! If you’ve always wanted a speckled little buddy to love and cherish, he’s ready to meet you!

He’s just around a year and a half old, and fully grown at about 64 pounds.

Vinton is available for adoption from Faithful Friends Animal Society in Wilmington, DE. Click here to learn more about Vinton.

11. Millie the Boston Terrier

Millie is a sweet 4 yr old Boston terrier who was given up by a backyard breeder after she started fighting with the other dogs that she was kenneled with.

Millie is not used to living in the house so she will need a patient family with a fenced yard. She is not good with other dogs or cats or small animals. She is looking for a family with puppy mill experience.

Millie is available for adoption from Sad Tails Of PA in Freedom, PA. Click here to learn more about Millie.

12. Tyson the Amstaff Bully Mix

Tyson is a goofy, loving, and playful soul who loves the humans who love him without reserve. He is great on the leash and on car trips, he has excellent manners, knowing how to sit and take treats well.

Tyson loves toys and especially food! He is good with people once he has been introduced by people he trusts, and is good with kids too.

He tolerates other dogs but we would prefer he be in an only-dog situation. He does suffer from separation anxiety so his ideal home would be someone who works at home and could be with him most of the time.

Tyson is available for adoption from The Pixel Fund in Florida. Click here to learn more about Tyson.

Kevin

Kevin Garbes grew up with a female West Highland White Terrier named Murphy who was always by his side. Kevin currently lives in New York state with his family including a Labrabull (Labrador Retriever Pit Bull) named Lily.
